AEMT:
· Replaced the EMT-Intermediate provider.
The 300 plus contact hour Advanced Emergency Medical Technician certificate program, also spanning a 5 to 6 month time frame, builds upon the EMT's educational experience to prepares learners to provide basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation for ill and injured emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. The AEMT learner possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation and functions as part of a comprehensive EMS response with medical oversight. Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance and link patient care at the scene to the emergency health care system.
Successful completion of the program allows the graduate to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians AEMT certification examinations and apply for Georgia licensure as an AEMT through the State Office of EMS and Trauma (SOEMST).
· High School Diploma/GED required prior to graduation
· Criminal background checks and drug screens are required by licensing agencies and clinical affiliates.
· Public Safety Employment Awareness Statement:
A criminal history will not hinder a student from participating in the AEMT program at Hippocrates EMS Academy; however, clinical affiliates have the right to refuse a student's participation in clinical rotations and therefore may hinder program completion and a student with a criminal background may be denied employment in the Public Safety field.
· Students applying for admission to the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) program must have a current EMT certification or licensure OR must submit documentation of having completed an approved Emergency Medical Technician program and be eligible for certification or licensure.
· AEMT program costs = $1,750 + books (Financial Payment plans are available).
