EMT - Module 1:
* Formerly known as the EMT-Basic
*Course Description:
The 384 contact hour Emergency Medical Technician program prepares learners to provide basic emergency medical care for ill or injured patients who access the emergency medical system and is generally taught over a six month time span. The EMT learner possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation and functions as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance or first responder unit and transport patients from the scene to the emergency health care system.
Successful completion of the program allows the graduate to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians EMT certification examination and apply for Georgia licensure as an EMT through the State Office of EMS and Trauma (SOEMST).
* High School Diploma/GED required prior to graduation
* Criminal background checks and drug screens are required based on the requirements for participation in clinical experiences.
* Public Safety Employment Awareness Statement: A criminal history
will not hinder a student from participating in the EMT program at Hippocrates EMS Academy; however, clinical affiliates have the right to refuse a student's participation in clinical rotations that may hinder program completion and a student with a criminal background may be denied employment in the Public Safety field.
